New data from Mintel expert shows that more consumers are following social media for trends.

As consumers increase their social media engagement and increase their likelihood of shopping online, social commerce is set to naturally benefit, according to market research firm Mintel. In fact, 40% of consumers believe influencers help them improve grooming/beauty skills while 41% of US consumers say they found beauty influencers inspiring. Additionally, halfof US consumers buy products directly from social media and a whopping 76% of consumers visit a brand on social media before going to their website! According to Jennifer White Boehm, a research analyst with Mintel in Chicago, the “everyone’s an expert” nature of social media has a clear impact on the beauty space. “Beauty experts like makeup artists or hairstylists are knocked off their solo pedestals and are gained on by celebrities, lifestyle bloggers and models as sources of beauty information,” she told Happi. “The key to winning the game is giving consumers the attributes they seek, including inspiration and results, without overtly pushing product.”
